Vera Gamble is on
her way to the island of Winter Haven to make a positive identification
of a body that washed ashore. Is it really her brother? She is having a
hard time believing it is him, as he disappeared thirteen years ago and
she had not heard from him.
Vera does not want
to believe it, but the body really is her brother and he looks exactly
like he did thirteen years ago. There had to be some reasonable
explanation. She begins questioning the locals who give her a cold
reception. Only one person can help her, a mysterious man who lives in
a falling down mansion high on the rocks on the edge of the island.
Vera learns of
several legends while digging around, including a witch bent on
vengeance who pulls pranks on Vera, and a lost colony whose ghostly
spirits can be heard through the fog. Vera will have to solve the
mystery of not only her brother, but also of the legends before she
becomes their next victim.
This is a
wonderful suspense with twists and turns sure to hold the readers
attention to the end. There is mystery as well with elements of the
paranormal. I highly recommended this book.
